We were beautifully entertained on 6th May by folk-rock pioneer Ashley Hutchings of Fairport Convention fame and the fabulous melodic vocalist Becky Mills. Their Paradise and Thorns performance was a wonderful mix of traditional and modern folk, new songs and old, dramatic readings, sonnets, diary excerpts, and superb lyrics and musicianship. Ashley’s son Blair Dunlop also joined them and it was lovely to welcome him back following his great performance in the hall last October.
The next meeting of the Marton Local History Group is on Monday 25th April at 7.30 in the village hall. This will consist of the AGM, covering the time since 2019 when we last had an AGM, followed by a talk on the history of The Elms. This house has a fascinating history from its origins as a couple of cottages in the eighteenth century. As with past AGMs there is no entry charge but you still receive a complementary glass of wine. All welcome.
This is the last meeting at the hall for this season. In May there is a guided walk around historic Brinklow on Monday 16th.
